What is TVS Ultrasound?

A transvaginal ultrasound is defined as an imaging procedure that allows your sonographer to see the pelvis and the organs inside the pelvic cavity. These organs include the uterus, cervix, fallopian tube, and ovaries. This ultrasound shows abnormal growth and structures in the pelvic area that may indicate a disease or condition. A sonographer also performs a transvaginal scan to confirm or monitor pregnancy.

Why TVS Ultrasound Done?

Tvs ultrasound is done to diagnose abnormal conditions like abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain. Transvaginal ultrasound is also used to monitor pregnancy. It also allows sonographers to identify tumors, cysts, polyps, fibroids, signs of pelvic infection, signs of ectopic pregnancy or miscarriages, etc.

How is a TVS Ultrasound Done?

To do tvs ultrasound, the technician inserted a lubricated transducer into the vagina and gently moved to show the different organs in the pelvis. The transducer emits high-frequency sound waves and records the reflection of those waves off body structures.

Is TVS Ultrasound Safe?

Transvaginal ultrasounds are safe. Although the transducer insertion may cause some pressure and discomfort, there are no known risks overall.

Is TVS Ultrasound Painful?

No tvs ultrasound is not a painful procedure. The transducer is designed according to the shape of the vagina to curve in it. This keeps the procedure painless. During the procedure, a lubricated transducer is inserted into the vagina to see the pelvic organs. Some discomforts may be experienced due to the pressure of the transducer.

What to Do Before TVS Ultrasound?

Transvaginal ultrasounds don’t need much preparation. The procedure is relatively painless and quick, with little risk of side effects. For preparation

  • Wear clothes that you can change quickly.
  • Follow your sonographer’s instructions about when to drink water and go to the bathroom.
