At first, the sonographer applies a gel on your abdominal area. This gel helps transmit sound waves. Then, the sonographer slightly presses the transducer against the abdomen and moves back and forth. This transducer sends sound waves inside the abdomen. These waves bounce off and are received by the computer, which uses them to produce pictures of the organs

Preparation before the scan

Following are the preparations before the scan.

Wear comfortable clothes.
Stop eating or drinking a few hours before the scan.
For a kidney scan, you may be asked to drink enough water 1 hour before the scan to fill your bladder.

Results

After the scan, a radiologist will review your abdominal ultrasound report and interpret their findings. Then, your doctor shares the results with you and recommends a suitable treatment plan.
